Happy International Day of the Girl
If you want to make the world a better place, it’s best to start early in creating awareness for good values, justice and sustainability.
Our children’s book series “Smart Way To Start” aims to do just that. Our latest book “A Smart Way to Start Doing Good” explains the 17 goals for sustainable development of the UN in a playful way and is now available as FREE e-book!

International Day of the Girl
Today, October 11, we celebrate the 9th International Day of the Girl. it is a day in which we raise awareness for the inequality faced by girls worldwide in areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, as well as their need for protection against violence, sexual abuse and forced child marriage.
Girl’s education is one of the key success factors to protect girls against inequality and empower them to take control of their future.
We are committed to contributing to this goal, for as little or as much as we can, with our books on money, equality and sustainability: we believe that every girl deserves to be equipped with the confidence to negotiate her worth and the basis skills to take control of her financial future.
A Common Goal
Plan International works in over 75 countries to promote equality between girls and boys, working with vulnerable children, especially girls, so they can access education, be safe from harm, and can learn, lead, decide and thrive. The goal of Plan International is that every girl has the means to become a free, self-determined woman. With their work, they advance the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and focus in particular on SDG 5 – gender equality, SDG 4 – high-quality education, and SDG 8 – decent work and economic growth.
“We are very pleased to be working with Dr. Mara Catherine Harvey. The book helps to create awareness for more justice – not only among the youngest, but also among parents,” said Suba Umathevan, CEO of Plan International Switzerland.
Money is a transmission of values
Every person can do a lot more to make our world a better place. With my Smart Way To Start series, I want to empower children, and girls in particular, to become financially self-confident and to enter professional life on an equal footing with boys. I want them to know their worth and be armed with basic money skills for life. Teaching children that money is a transmission of values is the core of my mission.
With this new book, A Smart Way To Start Doing Good (SDG), I hope that every person, big or small, can learn about the sustainable development goals and understand how much more we can do to make our world a wonderful one for all generations to come. We need to be more aware of the power we have with every single money choice we make on a daily basis. If every money decision were made wisely, the 17 goals of sustainable development would not lack funding.
Whether it is a consumption, production, procurement or investment decision, the way we mobilize capital has so much potential to do good. And for that to come to life, we can’t leave a single girl behind. We can all start doing good to support the SDGs and advance gender equality.
